I might be tarred and feathered for saying this, but I often wonder as an American what would happen if America hadn’t declared its independence from the British Crown so long ago. An Anglophile through and through, I keep a healthy rotation of British royal family podcasts in my queue. Here are six podcasts that keep me updated on the reining royal house, the House of Windsor.
Royally Obsessed
One of my longest listened to podcasts on the list, Royally Obsessed, has faithfully provided my royal fix since 2018. The original hosts, Kaitlin Menza and Lisa Ryan passed hosting duties to Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie in 2020, and they haven’t disappointed. Every Thursday, armed with their “Royal Cocktail,” they aim to provide balanced commentary of the latest across the pond.
Palace Confidential
Host Jo Elvin, the editor of You magazine, helms this weekly podcast and online talk show for the Daily Mail that features a cast of royal experts, columnists and former Palace Staff delivering exclusive news and sharp analysis of current royal events. This characteristically British podcast is full of wit and sarcasm, hallmarks of British humour that help keep you royally clued up.
Pod Save The Queen
Daily Mirror’s award-winning podcast is “a refreshingly informal, totally unstuffy and a thoroughly modern take on all things royal.” Hosts Zoe Forsey (or Anna Gripper) and the royal editor Russell Myers provide unbiased discussions and engaging interviews providing all the details on your favorite royals, their fashion, causes and travels as they navigate their place as a modern monarchy in Britain and the world.
The Royal Rota
This podcast and YouTube channel from ITV News, fronted by their royal editor Chris Ship and royal producer Lizzie Robinson encapsulates the front-page stories featuring the House of Windsor. Episodes open with “Robinson’s Royal Rundown,” a recap of the past seven days royal stories and are then proceeded by lively discussions and insightful guests. One to check out to stay abreast of the news and events from the Court Circular to the tabloids.
The Heir Pod
An ABC News production features royal editor and author of Finding Freedom, Omid Scobie, reporting on the British royal family. A controversial figure; He has claimed to have experienced racial prejudice from Palace staff; and was also had a claim removed from a documentary in which he purported that Prince William “sought to call into question his brother’s mental health.” So, if your Team Sussex, this is undoubtedly a podcast you will enjoy.
The India Hicks Podcast
India Hicks, a lifestyle maven, is goddaughter to Prince Charles along with her mother, Lady Pamela Hicks, daughter of India’s last viceroy, provides an intimate look at the Royal family, as well as their own. Lady Pamela, a first cousin with Prince Philip, was a bridesmaid to then-Princess Elizabeth then lady-in-waiting to Prince Elizabeth. She was present in Kenya when King George VI died and accompanied the Queen on royal tours to Jamaica, New Zealand, Australia, Libya, and Malta.
